Bill Beard has been cartooning since he was seven years old. His first drawing was that of Fred Flintstone, which he crayoned onto a paper plate. He graduated high school in 1987, the same year he began inking a weekly editorial cartoon for his hometown newspaper, which he still does. In 2013 and 2014, Bill won first place for Best Editorial Cartoon in the state of Illinois, given by the Illinois Press Association. Bill attended classes at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo., and graduated from John Wood Community College in Quincy, Ill., with an associates in graphic design. He has self-published two illustrated history books on Pike County, Illinois, a collection of his editorial cartoons, and two coloring books. On January 1st, 2010, Bill began his daily Marty and Turkey cartoons. He works as the visual communications specialist at Quincy University in Quincy. In his spare time Bill likes to travel, study local history, draw caricatures at local festivals, and play with his dogs Rascal, Mickey and Scruffy.
